2011 YANKEE WHALE WATCH

By Office Staff

Yankee Fleet will begin their tours in mid Spring.  Our trips will run Monday thru Friday 1:30-5:30 and weekends 2:30-6:30.

Group pricing is available for the 2011 season. Yankee Fleet will meet or beat any local competitor price.  Contact us at 800-942-5464 or by email at yankeeinfo1@yankeefleet.com for further details.

Gloucester is the top whale watching port in the Northeast.  We have the ability to  travel North to Jeffrey’s Ledge or South to Stellwagen Bank in order to  view these magnificent creatures.  Both bodies of water are 15-20 miles from Gloucester so we  go to where the whales are.

Most common species for this area are humpbacks, minkes and finwhales.  All trips are full narrated.  Guests are able to ask questions and really get to learn all about these mammals.

Our 100′ Yankee Freedom is equipped with a large upper deck and lower deck, with an inner cabin with seating and tables.  A full service galley is available on board.

For reservations and more information please contact us!  We are looking forward to another fantastic season.

Monday Whale Watch

By Tom O

The shortest distance from shore ever this season for some of the best whale watching. Cosmos and Doric spent a long time kick feeding and bubble feeding; more activity than we’ve seen in a long time. Our travels also brought us super close to Thacher’s Island for a unique view of Thacher Lights

July 23 Whale watch

Great whale watch Thursday. We had a choice of viewing 7 different Humpback whales. We got a great look at all of them . The whales have moved closer in the last couple weeks . That gives us more time to view them. We also have had some fantastic Bluefin tuna watching while out there. A few dolphins have been in that mix as well.

Looking like a great weekend for Whale watching

whale-watch-8-9-09-889Great weather and great sightings!

Fulcrum and her calf enjoyed the warm weather by flipper flapping on the surface and rolling around. A variety of other humpbacks enjoyed the weather joined by several minkes as well. Another perfect day at sea!

A gorgeous day brought us through a couple of minke whales to 12 Humpback Whales; including Lavalier and calf, music, and infinity. Several Humpback Whales spent the afternoon logging (napping) and others traveled in a group of 5- a relatively rare behavior.

Another day of good weather brought us to 11 Humpback Whales searching for food and resting in the warm sun. A mother and calf enjoyed the nice day to rest and for the calf to feed.

Taking just a short ride north to Jeffrey’s Ledge we quickly were surrounded by Humpback Whales!

A group of 5 Humpback Whales were open mouth feeding as we arrived. We continued to watch 14 more whales move through the area. Weather and whale watching turned out great. A great day for everyone!

A rather long travel brought us down near Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod, but it was certainly worth the trip! The whales have found large amounts of food and displayed a variety of feeding behaviors including kick feeding and bubble nets. For a long time, five humpback whales were feeding together - all rising with mouths full of food. At times there where 10 whales around the boat feeding and diving. One whale decided to have a little fun and breached three times right near the boat. whale-watch-7-15_023whale-watch-7-15_176
